A febe-oriental é um papa-moscas insetívoro de chegada precoce, que caça por "investida" — observando de um poleiro baixo e exposto e voando para capturar insetos em voo, retornando em seguida ao poleiro. Prefere bordas de bosques e margens de córregos, onde árvores e arbustos fornecem os poleiros baixos e a cobertura estrutural que utiliza. No outono e no inverno, quando os insetos voadores são escassos, complementa sua dieta com pequenos frutos e bagas.
