Fragaria × ananassa
Le fraisier cultivé des épiceries et des jardins familiaux — une vivace herbacée stolonifère basse d'origine hybride (croisement entre le Fragaria chiloensis d'Amérique du Sud et le F. virginiana d'Amérique du Nord). De denses rosettes en monticule aux feuilles trifoliées dentées portent au printemps des bouquets lâches de fleurs blanches à cinq pétales, qui mûrissent en fruits agrégés rouges en forme de cône typiques, parsemés d'akènes semblables à des graines. Les plants s'étirent sur des stolons aériens qui s'enracinent aux nœuds pour former de nouveaux plants, si bien qu'une seule plantation finit par former un tapis.
