Una hortaliza de raíz para clima fresco, de la familia de las mostazas (Brassicaceae), nativa de Escandinavia y Finlandia, también llamada nabo sueco o nabo amarillo. NC State Extension la describe como una bienal de crecimiento lento y porte extendido, cultivada como anual, que forma una raíz comestible y abultada que rinde mejor cuando se cosecha con 3-5 inches de diámetro, coronada por hojas de color azul verdoso intenso, profundamente lobuladas y de porte rastrero. Requiere sol pleno, buen drenaje y un riego constante de una pulgada por semana — el estrés hídrico vuelve la raíz leñosa y amarga. Intolerante al calor, se cultiva para una cosecha otoñal o de principios de invierno y alcanza la madurez en unos 90-120 días.
