El follaje alberga orugas de la mariposa Papilio polyxenes —el mismo especialista de las Apiaceae que utiliza el perejil. NC State señala que la forma silvestre (Daucus carota subsp. carota, zanahoria silvestre o encaje de la reina Ana) es la misma especie e interfértil con las zanahorias cultivadas; no deje que las zanahorias cultivadas pasen el invierno y siembren en zonas donde también esté presente la zanahoria silvestre.
