Pisum sativum
Una leguminosa anual de estación fría cultivada por sus vainas comestibles o sus granos verdes desgranados. Se autopoliniza en el botón — una de las hortalizas de huerta más fiables y la especie que Mendel utilizó para establecer la genética moderna. Los tipos trepadores alcanzan 5-6 feet; los tipos enanos no superan las 24". Fija el nitrógeno atmosférico mediante nódulos de Rhizobium — deja el suelo enriquecido para el cultivo siguiente.
